UPMC’s Living Liver Transplants Are Changing Patients’ Lives
UPMC’s Living Donor Liver Transplant program is changing the lives of patients with end-stage liver disease.
Access Health travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to visit UPMC, where their Living Donor Liver Transplant Program is changing the lives of patients with end-stage liver disease.
Unlike other transplant centers, UPMC living donors are presented as a first option for all patients on the transplant list. Dr. Abhinav Humar, Chief of UPMC Transplant Services, discusses why this innovative option could help save the nearly 2,800 lives that are lost each year while waiting on the transplant list.
Host Ereka also sits down with Dr. Swaytha Ganesh, Medical Director of the Living Donor Program, to discuss the process of the living donor liver transplant program and what makes a donor and recipient eligible. We also meet with Frank Drew who received a second chance at life, thanks to his daughter Erica. Stay tuned for this special episode of Access Health!
