Celine Dion made a rare public appearance at the 2024 Grammys. The five-time Grammy winner has been away from the media after being diagnosed with the rare and incurable neurological disorder stiff person syndrome (SPS). Dion took the stage to present the award for Album of the Year, an award she won in 1997 for her album “Falling into You.”

Taylor Swift won the award for her “Midnights” album and then dropped the news no one was expecting. Swift announced her brand new album “The Tortured Poets Department” will be released on April 19.

Dion at the Grammys

Dion wore an elegant baby pink floor-sweeping gown with a pleated bodice. She accessorized with an eye-catching necklace and diamond bracelet. To complete her look, she added a long caramel coat and her hair in a sleek bob.

“Thank you all. I love you right back. You look beautiful,” she said. “When I say I’m happy to be here I really mean it from my heart.”

In May of 2023, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer canceled 42 dates of her Courage World Tour because of her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome. A source told PEOPLE magazine that Dion’s goal is to eventually “tour again for sure, but once she is better.”

Stiff Peron Syndrome

Stiff person syndrome affects the central nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the rare autoimmune neurological disorder most commonly causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms that come and go. Unfortunately, there is no cure and these symptoms can worsen over time.

Other Recent Appearances

Dion returned to the stage in November 2023. She performed at a hockey game between the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the Montreal Canadiens. We can only hope these appearances mean Dion is feeling better.

Dion’s older sister, Claudette, gave an update on the Canadian born singer’s health. “She’s doing everything to recover. She’s a strong woman,” she told Hello! Canada.
