Billie Eilish walked away with the ninth Grammy as an artist. This year at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, the “Bad Guy” singer and her brother Finneas took home the award for song of the year. Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” is the song for the Oscar-nominated film Barbie.

Eilish also won the best song written for visual media for her Barbie track earlier in the night. The Grammy award-winning artist spoke about how writing the song has affected the music she’s been creating since.

“We had really been writing absolutely nothing before we had that opportunity to write for Barbie,” she told reporters.

“We had been working three days a week and not coming with stuff. And even if we were coming up with stuff, it just didn’t feel right, didn’t feel good, didn’t feel real. And I got really worried,” she continued. “I felt like it was going to be over a little bit. I was in a really dark place; a really, really dark place, and it’s kind of hard to think back to it.”

Writing the Grammy Winning Song

Eilish credited Barbie director, Greta Gerwig for the opportunity to write and record the song, “this life-changing thing that we didn’t really realize was going to be life-changing like that.”

The musician went on to say how she and her brother wrote the song “24 hours after we saw the movie and wrote it under two hours if not one hour.”

Eilish credits the Grammy-winning song for sparking her creativity again, “And honestly, from then on, we were just creative again. I don’t know. It woke us up and got us back on our thing and it was really special and powerful, and I hold it deep and dear to my heart,” Eilish said.

Billie Eilish to Perform at Oscars

Eilish recieved a standing ovation for performing “What Was I Made For?” at the 2024 Grammy Awards. She will perform the song again at the 2024 Oscars. The song is up for best original song alongside fellow Barbie tune “I’m Just Ken.” If Billie Eilish wins, it will be her second Oscar. She won in 2022 for “No Time to Die,” her theme song for the James Bond movie, No Time to Die.
