What is Ozempic?
Ozempic is a weekly injectable prescription medicine for adults with type 2 diabetes. It’s intended to be used alongside a healthy diet and exercise regimen to help improve blood sugar and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.
Ozempic for weight loss
Although not approved for weight loss, some physicians have prescribed Ozempic for that purpose. In regard to weight loss, the drug essentially makes you feel full quicker and slows the digestion of food. The active ingredient in Ozempic is Semaglutide which, in combination with diet and exercise, works for weight loss.
A surge of people began to use Ozempic for weight loss in 2023 as it became somewhat of a phenomenon.
Side Effects
Like any other prescription drug, there are risks that accompany it. There are serious possible side effects of Ozempic including thyroid tumors and even cancer. More common side effects of Ozempic include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, and diarrhea.
Ozempic Face
The term “Ozempic face” was coined following an observation by a dermatologist who shared that he had noticed a certain similar face change amongst weight loss users of Ozempic. Essentially the term refers to a drooping or sunken effect on the face that makes it look older as a result of a significant amount of weight loss.
Losing a dramatic amount of weight, especially for older individuals, can cause a disturbance in your facial volume that appears to age you.
Although this side effect isn’t a health threat, it’s something that you may want to consider before deciding to begin using Ozempic or any weight loss medication.
