Adele Talks about her Drinking Problems: ‘I Was a Borderline Alcoholic’
November 2, 2023
Global icon Adele has opened up about her struggles with drinking. The Grammy-winning singer said, “I was a borderline alcoholic,” recently while performing at her Vegas residency. Adele says she has stopped drinking over the summer. Although she is happy with her decision, she finds being sober “boring.”
At her residency show, Adele said, “I stopped drinking maybe like three and a half months ago. It’s boring. I mean, I was literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my 20s, but I miss it so much. I cut out caffeine.”
Adele held a glass of wine while speaking to the crowd but didn’t drink any of it. “I remember when I came [to Las Vegas] in Covid, in lockdown, it was 11 a.m. and I was definitely like four bottles of wine in,” she said. This isn’t the first time the Grammy-winning artist quit drinking. Back in 2021, Adele announced she would quit drinking, but a year later she was seen on multiple occasions indulging in alcoholic beverages.

Other Celebrities Open About Sobriety
Adele isn’t the first celebrity to be open about their struggles with quitting or trying to reduce their drinking habits. Celebrities have used their platforms to encourage people to get help. Tom Holland, notable for playing the role of Spider-Man, discussed with Entertainment Weekly how his role in Apple TV’s The Crowded Room, took a toll on him mentally and physically. Holland is almost two years sober. Other celebrities who publicly mentioned their sobriety are Matthew Perry, Ben Affleck, Zac Efron, Daniel Radcliffe, Drew Barrymore, and Miley Cyrus.
Alcoholism
